Card Making World

Card making doesn't need to be expensive...the web is your oyster!

Hi all, i am quite a creative person and enjoy making things. I currently make gift's for babies toddlers, ladies and the odd one for men too. My gift's are made from socks, baby clothes nappies and anything that is tottaly reusable. I currently sell my gift's on ebay and am in the middle of setting up my website, is just taking much longer than i imagained it would. I have admired hand made cards for a while now and thought that i might give it a go. I have collected some things together to get me started but now i have i don't know where to start lol. I would appreciate any input anyone has to help me, i am now unsure what i can use from the site as i was reading somethig earlier and it said that printables needed to be changed and not just by colour, not sure now lol. I suppose i am best to start with something easy as a first project, just not sure what. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation Dale x.

Hi Dale

Welcome to the site, your projects look lovely and you have a great talent :)

As for the cards, it depends what equipment you have and what you enjoy
Take a look in the freebie section and download a couple of projects that are different, and see what you enjoy
I have seen some decoupage, watercolour pictures, pyramid and a penny slider.
If you need any guidance on how to make the up just shout :)

We are often in the chat room and you are most welcome to natter and ask for help there too we can even take it step by step in there :D

Also there are quite a few group on the left don't be afraid to join in

Thanks for the warm welcome debs i'm sure i will be shouting a lot to start with lol. I have bought quite a lot of backing papers and have got some free bits i got with mags that i bought as i didn't know wich was the best i bought a selection over the last few weeks. I got some stencils but didn't realise i needed a light box when i bought them lol. I have stamps and inks a small selection, double sided tape and foam pads. some shape punch's ribbons, sequins, confetti and a selection of coloured card. I also bought a friskers embosing board and some embosing stencils. I already have a scoring board that i make my own box's with.

If you get stuck without a lightbox, make your own to be getting on with :)

You can do it with a tupperware box and a torch :)

Have you had a gander through the gallery? This will give you some ideas too

Welcome Dale, sounds like you have already got a bit of a stash going on there! Be warned, this hobby can seriously effect your life, it can take over you know! LOL

Looking in magazines is always a good start. Just copy a project that takes your eye and see how you get on. Don't use any really nice papers on the first one or two, in fact I would suggest that you print your own, just so that if you are not happy with the first one or two you won't have wasted money and good stash. I print most of the backing papers I use, it is much cheaper and makes finding matching colours easier. If you search online for free digital scrapbook papers you will find some to download and use. If you can't find any let me know and I can point you in the right direction. If you are stuck for card designs, another good site is Pagemaps (google it). They have card layouts you can download which are a line sketch giving you ideas of how to set the card out, and you can use the papers and embellishments of your choice to create the card.
Jump in with both feet and have a go, shout if you have problems.

Good luck
Diane
