Hi everyone
Just to add my thoughts to the commmercial license thread. In my experience having different license levels is quite a job. I am streamlining my license setup, because it is too clumsy. At the moment I have licenses per individual products with various pricepoints, depending on the size of the set.

Then I offered a "blanket license" with my CD collection and that is very popular. So now I am moving towards a blanket license but am still sorting out the details. I have a Terms of Condition page that is a bit of a tome! I sat down and tried to think of all sorts of situations and jotted them down. It took my hours if not days! If you want to have a look at it – I have the "abridged Reader's Digest" version first and then the longwinded full one following: )

Not everyone will need such a treatise, but I have had a long design career with a fair share of disputes and even court cases. Be very careful what you allow. My licenses are only for home bus. crafters who make the stuff themselves.

PLUS make sure you have a proper registry of license-holders. I keep tight control over this, because I do licensed products for companies too and need to know who has the rights to do what.

I have a dispute going on right this minute with a British company who shall remain nameless. So despite my vigilance, I have someone trying to manufacture my designs for a product beyond what we agreed upon.

Always retain full rights over all of your designs. I know of what I speak.
So to summarize – don't make it too complicated for you to monitor or for crafters to figure out which license to buy.

Thats my thought of the day
Love

Hi Helen,
Will have a good browse tonight. Sorry not had chance yet as so much going on. Still having major problems with the website which has been going on for 2 weeks now and really starting to take it's toll. I love the floral images so will definetly be purchasing some of those in the very near future!

Hi everyone
Anni here. Just joined (thanks for notifying me Adele) and haven't set up my page yet. I'm a professional designer/illustrator and started to design a special line of products for crafters a while ago.

I have a webshop selling my printable crafts http://www.anniarts.com
and I really want to network in Europe/UK as my focus so far has been the American market. It just happened that way, no specific reason. If you have a website and want to have another income stream, I have two affiliate products paying 50% commisions. The one is my printable crafts club which has been very popular with my subscribers before it went public (I have just added it to Clickbank recently). Nice recurring monthly income there for affiliates and I can supply whatever grpaphics you need. The other affiliate product is a craft ebook and templates to rework used xmas and greeting cards. I will be adding all products to an afiliate programme soon, but most products except weddings are already in the club.

(So Adele there are two products for your affiliate listing.)

I am investigating reseller programmes, but it just seems to me as if designers really sell themselves short on these. What do you think?

Best regards to you all
Anni

Sell AS IS = Reseller License
Sell as part of their design = Commercial License

...so you can offer (like I am doing) a Reseller License +Commercial Use, so that your customer can a) sell the item on their store and also b) use the item to create with (e.g. co-ordinating papers etc)

lol.....just taken 2 anadin, i have confused myself today doing research...

What i offer at the moment is a commercial license then as i allow people to sell the products they MAKE using my images...

What i am going to be doing is offering the images for sale to people who will then sell the image itself either as is or part of their deisgn, this being under the reseller license..

Then i have options of :

Reseller = license to sell AS IS
Commercial Use = license to make things with

Debbie's recommendation - different levels of Commercial licenses seems like a good idea.
