Green and Frugal...

When I had my shop I'd look at all those luxuriously thick papers, fancy cards, embellishments and adhesives and wonder what effect the papercraft industry has on the environment.

It played a big part in my interest in downloadable craft supplies...we can print our own papers when we need, and on recycled inkjet paper, leaving the 'big boys' to concentrate on what we cannot produce ourselves like textured papers, foils and all the tools of the trade.

Since then, everyone is getting far more 'eco-friendly' than even just a few years ago and Crafters are well known for not throwing anything away, as well as being inventive with their stash...so I thought we could have a group dedicated to being frugal.

So, if you have any tips or tricks about how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle for card making, tell us here!

Hello Ecocrafters
Just to let you know that "Recycling Christmas Cards" is on a special sale for you here on CMW. I am expanding the set to include more projects with all greeting card types and hence the original set of ebook (photographs and instructions) and templates (40 of them no less) is on 50% sale for Christmas in July!

It really is a bargain and the additions later in the year will also be available seperately for those who have the first set. More info under Anni Arts in the designers section.

Regards
Anni

Hi everyone! I'm new to card-making-world.com
I just had to join the Eco-crafters group, being an eco-crafter myself.
I try and re-use just about everything I can, old greetings cards I've recieved, I even get the rest of the family to save me their cards for me. Very little goes to waste. I like to re-use old clothes that are no good for anything else. Brochures and junkmail gets disected before it goes in the recycle bin. You name it I will use it.

Hello eco crafters.
I keep every bit of scrap paper from any paper project and I use them to make paper cut-out illustrations. Even a small bit can make a flower or a sprig and bitty bits I use to punch dots. Dots are so cheerful. I especially love using just bits of plain white paper on black for lacy pictures and cards. BW is my alltime favourite colour scheme. I will be uploading one card range I did like that to CMW soon, but this is what they look like framed. (I hope the pics upload.)

And the second one

Any bits of paper can be used in this way. Even bits with patterns and multi-colour collages are just fab. And small tags look nice added to the card. Give it a try. Start with simple cut-outs of daisies and leaves. It is a very forgiving style. Very plain looks great. No need for intricate pics. I teach this method at adult education classes to peole with no art in them and their pics turn out lovely. Arrange on a backing color and glue. Makes loverly cards.
Mmmm... maybe I should do a tutorial?

Like I say, I keep all my scraps in groups of colour families (in used envelopes!)

I am also working on the sequel to Recycling Christmas Cards (see ebook cover above). I am up to my ears with old greeting cards. The project keeps on having to take a backseat though as other projects have to get done. I wish, I wish I were an octopus with eight hands.
BTW Recycling Christmas Cards is an affiliate product, so you can sell it from your blog and get 50% of sales and help people recycle those cards. You just need an affiliate link. It is quite a seasonal product, but the ideas can be applied to any greeting cards. I just knew that xmas cards are what folks end up with most.

Keep those scraps and try paper cut-outs as card projects. Keep recycling! Reuse rethink recraft reinspire recreate something beautiful

I recycle the printed enveloped that bills come in. You'd be surprised at the variety. I use them to make Iris Folded cards (instructions and patterns online). I have a few photos posted on my page.
