Green and Frugal...

REDUCE - RECYCLE - REUSE

I started The Printable Craft Shop with more
environmentally friendly papercrafting in mind...

When I had my 'bricks and mortar' shop I'd look at all those luxuriously thick papers, fancy cards, embellishments and adhesives and wonder what effect the papercraft industry has on the environment.

It played a big part in my interest in downloadable craft supplies...we can print our own papers when we need, and on recycled card or inkjet paper, leaving the 'big boys' to concentrate on what we cannot produce ourselves like textured papers, foils and all the tools of the trade.

Recycled card on eBay...

Since then, everyone is getting far more 'eco-friendly' than even just a few years ago and Crafters are well known for not throwing anything away, as well as being inventive with their stash...so I thought we could have a group dedicated to being frugal.

So, if you have any tips or tricks about how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle for card making, tell us here!

...Rethink and Remake!

And on that note, Anni Lipsanen created this eBook and craft template set packed with wonderful, colourful ideas for recycling cards into new cards and crafts - massive template collection!

Working on the review for Anni's eBook and template set ("Recycling Christmas Cards") made me think about using wrapping paper etc., and I'm sure there are other bits and pieces you all save or re-use from Christmas...so lets have a festive thread…Continue

Hi Natasha - welcome to the group, bit quiet in here!  It's always good to hear of ways to recycle stuff so if you want to start discussions up above feel free!

Hi Everyone, being quite frugal with my crafting due to budget i thougth this group would be great to join. I reuse what I can from bows and embellishments on clothing to magazines and papers, even old and broken jewelery for the beads and gems. Even odd earrings no longer get thrown out. They get thoroughly cleaned and used for flower centres or as a brad!!!

Hi, I have just joined card-making world.  I have made and sold handmade paper on a small home-based scale for about 17 years.  Even the ultimate in recycling - paper textured with horse manure and elephant dung.  Have written some articles on Suite 101, including how to make money from handmade paper.  With today's economy I think everyone should look around them and be more aware of the loads of "free" craft materials.  From my shop I collect collect cardboard boxes in which our stock is delivered and take them to the paper waste collectors.  Instead of getting cash I "swop" for waste paper I can use for papermaking.  I often find loads of coloured paper and even coloured cardboard I use in cardmaking, for labels, etc.

Hello Ecocrafters
Just to let you know that "Recycling Christmas Cards" is on a special sale for you here on CMW. I am expanding the set to include more projects with all greeting card types and hence the original set of ebook (photographs and instructions) and templates (40 of them no less) is on 50% sale for Christmas in July!

It really is a bargain and the additions later in the year will also be available seperately for those who have the first set. More info under Anni Arts in the designers section.

Regards
Anni
