Card making doesn't need to be expensive...the web is your oyster!

Working on the review for Anni's eBook and template set ("Recycling Christmas Cards") made me think about using wrapping paper etc., and I'm sure there are other bits and pieces you all save or re-use from Christmas...so lets have a festive thread just for that...

Hello, I collect the bits of ribbon and beads from around the crackers on christmas day, You sometimes get some very pritty pieces, The motifes are always a good source of topper or tag decoration, they just get thrown away anyway. Its especially useful when you make things for charity less outlay more prophet. All my family know and collect things for me as well.
I once got loads of serviettes given from work, thay had not been used. they were lovely dark blue with stars on them. I used them as backing for snow themed shaker cards and tablecloths on cards with decorations sitting on top, I tied the ribbons in to a bow and add them to the top of an aparture dressed up to look like a bauble, I use them to add to the top of tags and I used some very elegant pieces for a fairy dress by tying a few in a row along another piece or ribbon making sure the all hung downwards, then glued them on to the card at the waist line of the cut out fairy. I could go on for ever talking about the things i have made with the bits that i have collected. I will have to see if i have any pictures of them.

Hi, I found a box of old Christmas cards in a drawer, which were not very good, so turned them into 3D decoupage cards. A bit of glitter & some peel off's & they look a lot different!

Over the years I have recycled all my christmas & birthday cards to make some really lovely cards.
I ask all my friends for their old ones. It is surprising what you can re-use doing this.

That is brilliant Valerie, I just thought, I might go up to the $2:00 shop and get some of their boxed Chrissie cards and make 3Ds out of them. There is usually about 3 of each pattern in every box.

Hi Barry, I use a variety of things for recycled christmas cards including the coloured wrappers off the chocolates eaten at christmas, as well as the internal workings of old videocassettes as they have silver coloured tubes inside great for christmas tree decorations, the inside of old recycled envelopes and the netting from around citrus fruits brought from supermarkets. I also use the packaging from mince pies, as ours have silver card inside. Hope this helps.

There are loads of things that can be recycled :- corks, bottle tops, party popper string, gift tags (they are really good for pictures in shaker cards), right down to fallen pine needles either real or artificial trees.

How about hanging Christmas decorations, I made this out of an old CD. Drilled holes, used embroidery thread and stick-ons. There is another one stuck on the that is the same and a green ribbon between the discs so it can be hung.

This is lovely Barry, I use mine to make snowglobe cards, the cd acting as the globe.

I have made use of old calendars...I paste them on gift bags (recycled) and they make an interesting bag. I usually paint a coat or 2 of thinned white glue

Wow. I love how you are all using xmas bits and bobs. I find it a very wasteful season, but I cannot do without it! I think if we are all mindful of recycling and reducing we can still carry on enjoying!
